The wholly owned EVA plant is being constructed within the metals research institute Swerim in Luleå, Sweden (see Figure 1) and will produce Talga’s flagship Li-ion battery anode material, Talnode ® -C, for large scale customer qualification trials. The EVA is understood to be the first Li-ion battery anode production plant in Europe. On-site construction activities are now well underway with structural and electrical works largely completed, and mechanical construction progressing well. The EVA integrated laboratory and production quality control modules are being assembled and installation of major anode shaping and coating equipment has commenced following milestone installation of the coating pyrolysis kiln (see Figure 1 and 2). International shipping delays have affected some equipment delivery dates, however the Company does not expect this to impact its commissioning and production timeline. Installation of the various mechanical, chemical and electrical work packages is on track to be ready for cold commissioning to commence next month with full commissioning of the EVA in Q1 2022 as planned. EVA Plant Construction Progresses Figure 1 Talga EVA plant, Luleå Sweden (L) and installation of EVA anode coating kiln (R) Talga Managing Director, Mark Thompson, commented: “The EVA plant is a key step in Talga’s mission to enable the world’s greenest batteries and represents real progress towards local decarbonisation strategies. We look forward to the commissioning of Europe’s first coated anode production facility and continued qualification of our Talnode ® products with Li-ion battery manufacturers.” Graphite Source The EVA plant uses high-grade purified natural graphite sourced from Talga’s 100% owned Vittangi graphite project in Sweden. The ore is milled and processed at Talga's European partner facilities to produce purified Talphite ® -C concentrate, the pre-cursor material for Talnode ® -C. These partner facilities have been u p g r a d e d , e x p a n d e d a n d s u c c e s s f u l l y recommissioned to process larger amounts of anode precursor required for EVA production line testing. Further batches of Talphite ® -C will be produced with graphite from the 2021-22 trial mine, the first phase of which was completed in October 2021. This graphite ore has undergone primary crushing and is being stored in preparation for milling and concentrate production to recommence in 2022 feeding the EVA volume ramp up.
