Woodside Petroleum Ltd (ASX:WPL)
Woodside Petroleum Limited (ASX:WPL) is the pioneer of the LNG industry in Australia and the largest Australian natural gas producer. Woodside has a global portfolio and is recognised for its world-class capabilities as an integrated upstream supplier of energy.
Pluto LNG processes gas from the offshore Pluto and Xena gas fields in Western Australia. Gas is piped through a 180 km trunkline to a single onshore LNG-processing train. Pluto LNG is underpinned by 15-year sales agreements with Kansai Electric and Tokyo Gas, which each hold a 5% interest in the project.
North West Shelf
Accounting for more than one third of Australia’s oil and gas production, the NWS Project is a joint venture between six major international companies (Woodside - Operator, BHP Billiton Petroleum (North West Shelf) Pty Ltd, BP Developments Australia Pty Ltd, Chevron Australia Pty Ltd, Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty Ltd, Shell Australia Pty Ltd).
Operated by Chevron on behalf of the Wheatstone Joint Venture, Wheatstone LNG processes gas from the offshore Wheatstone, Iago, Julimar and Brunello gas fields, 220 km from Onslow, Western Australia. Once fully operational, Wheatstone LNG will contribute over 13 MMboe of Woodside's annual LNG and domestic gas production.
Approved in 2016, the project will develop the Laverda Canyon, Norton over Laverda (WA-59-L) and Cimatti (WA-28-L) oil accumulations. These reserves will be produced via a 31 km subsea tie-back to the Ngujima-Yin floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facility, located over the Vincent oil field.
Woodside's vision is bold but simple: bringing new resources through its existing facilities in Australia's north-west. Providing ongoing employment and local content opportunities for decades into the future, building on what Woodside has created over the last 30 years.
Woodside's global exploration strategy is focused around three broad hub-based themes - established, emerging and future-growth hubs. Its diverse portfolio includes permit interests in Australia, Myanmar, Gabon, Ireland, Morocco, Peru, and Bulgaria, where it sees opportunities to leverage its core capabilities, particularly in operational competence and the application of new technologies to create increased value for shareholders. Woodside continues to evaluate new opportunities that align with the three growth horizons of its strategy.
Marketing, Trading & Shipping
Woodside supplies to portfolio players, major gas and electricity utilities, trading houses and industrial and mining buyers around the world. Woodside's strong relationships with customers in major energy markets come from its track record of reliable delivery and expertise across contracting, marketing and trading. While Woodside focuses on liquefied natural gas (LNG), it also supplies crude oil, condensate, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and pipeline natural gas. Woodside has been reliably supplying pipeline domestic gas to Western Australia since 1984. Woodside is seeking to develop new markets by exploring the use of LNG as a low-emissions and cost-effective alternative fuel for heavy transport and remote power generation.
