1. About

Zimplats Holdings Limited (ASX:ZIM) is in the business of producing platinum group and associated metals.

The Company is a subsidiary (87% shareholding) of one of the world’s leading producers of platinum group metals (PGMs), the South African based and listed Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (JSE:IMP), which contributes approximately 25% of global platinum output.

PGMs are precious metals, which frequently occur together in nature as constituents of various ores and minerals. PGMs are a family of six metals: platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium and osmium, all of which have similar chemical and physical properties and are grouped together in the periodic table.

Platinum and palladium are vital components in autocatalytic converters which play a significant role in controlling air pollution by reducing emissions in both gasoline and diesel engines. PGMs are recyclable, ensuring not only a reduction in waste but also sustainability of supply. Their excellent resistance to corrosion and high melting points make them ideal metals for a variety of industrial uses.
